  DIGIPIN: India Post's New Digital Addressing System Overview On May 27, 2025, DIGIPIN (Digital Postal Index Number), a new digital addressing system from India Post, was launched in collaboration with IIT Hyderabad, ISRO, and the National Remote Sensing Centre (NRSC). DIGIPIN, unique to India, increases service delivery efficiencies by providing a precise, geo-coded address to every resident and business in India. Where the traditional six-digit PIN code system covers average areas of 170 sq. km., the DIGIPIN system provides a unique 10-character alphanumeric code to every 4x4 meter grid in India, both urban, rural, and marine alike.
